Koinonia Small Groups
{Wednesday Nights}

Our entire youth group gathers every Wednesday night in the basement for our weekly koinonia small groups. We gather from 6:00 -7:30. Senior high students are placed in several small groups and junior high students are placed in different small groups.

Each group is lead by an adult and the time is spent growing in Christian Fellowship and accountability. Each week we study a passage from the Bible and apply it to the world we live in today. Time is also spent sharing issues and struggles youth are facing throughout their week and there is time for prayer and encouragement from the whole group.

Koinonia is the Greek word for “fellowship” that is used in the New Testament. The term refers to the community or fellowship of Christians participating together in the life of Christ made possible by the Holy Spirit. This shared belief and practice was the foundation of the early communities of disciples.

In the mind and teaching of Christ a church, or youth group, is a vital, living, dynamic fellowship of believers. Koinonia can be thought of as the fullest possible partnership and fellowship with God and with other believers.

God Squad
{Sunday Nights}

Our Sunday night fellowship involves the entire youth group, 6th – 12th grade from 5:45 – 8:00. We gather in the Family Life Center at 5:45 for a snack supper and then head down to the basement around 6:15.

At 6:30 we begin an evening of games and fun indoor and outdoor activities. We end the evening with a youth lead devotion and a time of worship and prayer. Each Sunday promises to be an encounter with the Living Christ and an opportunity to be spiritually feed through the scriptures, the fellowship of other believers, prayer, and worship.

Youth Choir
{Sunday Nights}

Youth Choir is open to all students in grades six through twelve. Rehearsals are from 5:00 - 5:45pm Sundays in the choir loft of the sanctuary. The youth choir sings every third Sunday at the 8:30am worship service. Meets during school year.
Special Events
We have at least one special event per month during the school year and several outings and camps during the summer months. These events range anywhere from Laser tag to a Whitewater Rafting Retreat. We also have youth participating each summer in several week-long camps and mission trips.

Once a month we have a fireside chat were we build a bonfire and discuss an individual from the Bible. Afterwards we spend the remainder of the evening roasting marshmallows and visiting with friends.

There is also a Fall Retreat and a Spring Retreat when we head off to a camp to spend the weekend together as a group searching deeper into God’s Holy Word and exploring our relationship with Christ. We also incorporate many group building games and activities and hear some incredible music and hold powerful worship celebrations!

Outreach
We have an ongoing mission to the students of Harrison High School, serving them a free breakfast every Wednesday morning when school is in session. We also actively encourage our students to invite their high school friends to attend a Chrysalis weekend, please see link below for more information.
Missions

At Aldersgate our youth have many different avenues of mission work. We claim the fact that we are called to be the hands and feet of Christ and are always seeking to go out into the community and make a difference.

On the first Saturday of each month we serve supper at the United Caring Shelter. Through out the month we also try to have several other opportunities to serve and minister in our city.

Each summer we take a week long mission trip and this coming summer we are planning on going to Quest Farm in Kentucky to assist mentally handicapped adults in working the farm they maintain to provide a living for themselves.

Open Invitation

The Aldersgate United Methodist youth group would like to extend an invitation to EVERYONE to come and join us at any and all our youth events! Christ calls and invites ALL into His Holy Fellowship & Body and we are excited about what God is doing at Aldersgate and through our youth.

You are welcome to come and see the difference Christ is making in our lives and you are invited to experience the difference Christ so desires to make in your life! We seek to make our youth group a “safe place” where young men and women can explore their relationship with God and seek to build each other up in positive, uplifting ways.

In the words of Philip the Apostle to his friend Nathanael, “COME & SEE!”

“Let anyone who is thirsty come to me, and let then one who believes in me drink. As the scripture has said, out of the believers hearts shall flow rivers of living water.”

John 7: 7; 37-38

“Listen, I am standing at the door, knocking; if you hear my voice and open the door, I will come in to you, and eat with you, and you with me.”

Revelation 3: 20

“The spirit of the Lord God is upon me, because the Lord has anointed me; he has sent me to bring good news to the oppressed, to bind up the broken hearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and release to the prisoners; to proclaim the year of the lord’s favor …. to comfort all who mourn, …

… to give them a garland instead of ashes, the oil of gladness instead of mourning, the mantel of praise instead of a faint spirit. They will be called oaks of righteousness, the planting of the Lord, to display his glory.”

Isaiah 61: 1-3
