Centering Prayer

Centering Prayer

Centering prayer is a silent prayer method that prepares us to receive the gift of God's presence. It is about forging a deeper relationship with God. Centering Prayer facilitates the movement from more active modes of prayer, verbal, mental, or effective prayer, into a receptive prayer of resting in God. It emphasizes prayer as a personal relationship with God. It is a discipline to foster this relationship by regular daily practice of prayer.

When you pray, go to your inner room, close the door, and pray to your Father in secret. -Matthew 6:6

The Centering Prayer group meets every 4th Tuesday of the month from 9:30-10:45 am. All are welcome, including all denominations.

Exercise Activities and Classes

Exercise Activities and Classes

Stay Fit at Aldersgate!

Walk Indoors
8:30 am-3:30 pm Monday through Friday
Aldersgate is a safe, level environment. Stay warm and dry while you walk.  Invite your neighbor or friends to come walk with you.

Qigong
Monday 9-10 am
Qigong (pronounced chi gung) is an ancient and holistic system of gentle body movements combined with breath. Many benefits can be derived from these very simple movements including, but not limited to, stress reduction, improved health, balance, circulation and vitality.

Many exercises can be performed seated in a chair so it is ideal for those with limited mobility or those confined to wheelchairs. Everyone of any age or physical condition can do qigong.

Classes will begin Monday, November 12 from 9:00-10:00 AM. The cost is $8/class. There is no commitment required so feel free to drop in when you can.

Classes will be led by Karen Yoe. You may contact her for further information at karenyoe@wowway.com or 812-480-2265. She would appreciate hearing from you if you plan on attending so she can prepare adequate materials for participants.

YOGA
All classes meet in the Media Center. Bring a yoga mat & towel to each class.

Tuesday & Thursday 9-10 am

Cost per class is $8.00, drop-in (no registration required). The class is gentle yet effective in strengthening capacities of breath, attention/focus, balance, overall strength and flexibility. Each movement is primarily centered around attention and breath, and will be appropriately adapted to the practitioner. This class is therapeutic in nature and welcomes all variations of bodies, minds, and levels of experience. The class includes standing, lying, and seated postures. The instructor will be able to help with any necessary modifications. The instructor has nine years of experience teaching yoga classes. She is currently undergoing a four year yoga therapist training in order to skillfully and appropriately apply the wisdom in the tools of yoga to further help individuals with general health issues that impose suffering. Feel free to contact the instructor Whitney Arvin at 812-296-6828 if you have questions about the class or are interested in a personalized yoga practice or individual session.

Tuesday & Thursday 10:30-11:30 am; Thursday 5:30-6:30 pm

Cost $10.00 per class, drop-in (no registration required). Bring a Yoga mat (mats are available in class if you do not have one). Yoga is a holistic approach to health and personal growth. You will feel better right away after your first practice, with a calmer mind and more relaxed body. Over time, regular practice will also address the deeper root of issues and resolve conditions that affect your well-being. My classes incorporate yoga poses to balance the body, as well as breathing and medication. I also teach private lessons for students interested in beginning a personal yoga practice, and I am licensed massage therapist practicing in Evansville. I look forward to working with you and with you great joy in yoga and life. You can find me and my yoga videos, recordings, and writing online. Please visit these sites and enjoy the free resources I’ve created or contact me (Zoe Sipes, experienced Yoga Teacher, Massage Therapist) at 812-250-9642 if you have questions.

Quilters & Friends

Quilters & Friends

This group of women meets every Tuesday morning at 9 in Room 104. There are currently 5 members. Some of the women do the quilting on quilts that are brought to us to finish. Part of the proceeds from their efforts are used to purchase supplies to make lap robes for nursing homes and children's security blankets. In recent years, we have delivered lap robes to at least 12 different nursing homes in the Evansville and Newburgh area. Children's blankets have been given to organizations, such as Family & Children's Services, Christian Life Center, and Gilda's Club. We have also given to support missions and needs within the church, such as the high school breakfast program, purchase of 2 lap top computers for the church, and contributions to the permanent endowment fund. You can see our display in the case in the south hallway. We welcome anyone to join us! If you have questions, please contact Mildred Matthews at milliem7132@gmail.com.
